Southend United Community and Educational Trust

The Southend Utd Football in the Community Scheme was first launched in 1991. Many of the original activities are still being delivered, including after schools coaching, holiday soccer fun weeks and recreational activities for senior citizens.

 

In 2004 the Football In The Community Scheme became a Community and Educational Trust - a company limited by guarantee and registered as a charity. Our board of trustees include representatives from Education, the Police, Local Authority and the Local Voluntary Services.

As all good community organisations must do, Southend United Community and Educational Trust has responded to the changing needs of our local community, successfully adapting current work programmes and providing innovative new services.

"To provide sporting, recreational and educational activities that will enhance both the personal and social development of all participants." 

Our Vision...

"To work in partnership with communities, continuing to deliver an inclusive range of educational, sporting and social opportunities, improving the quality of life for individuals and neighbourhoods in South East Essex."

In 2007 The Football League announced the formation of a new body called "The Football League Trust", to oversee Community and Youth Development activities at Football League Clubs, arising from the Premier League's "solidarity payments" to The League.

Former Burnley Football Club Chief Executive, Dave Edmundson, has been appointed General Manager of the new trust and he took up his post on 15th October.

The Football League Trust's primary function will be to manage funding arrangements in both areas, including the annual contributions of £5.4m and £4m from the Premier League towards clubs' Youth Development and Community Programmes, respectively.

Also, for the first time ever, clubs will be able to apply to The Football League Trust for additional grant funding to initiate new community activities. Applications will be judged by the Trust in accordance with their merits.
