Community Club of the year 2011
Southend United community & Educational Trust do it again!
Southend United Community & Educational Trust has retained the Community Club of the Year award for the second year running.
It is an amazing feat for the Trust after sharing the award last year with Watford.
The Football League Trust has six core themes of health, disability, education, sports participation, social inclusion and environmental health and Southend clearly excelled in all these areas to come away with the award.
The judging panel were highly impressed with the work Southend have put into their Blue’s Body care programme which was described as “truly outstanding” by a football league spokesman. The Body care programme is designed to increase health & physical activity whilst providing information to maintain a healthy lifestyle for young children and over 55’s. The community also attend nursing homes and deliver a seated exercise class for the less able..gif)
After winning the award, Community & Educational Trust’s Ben Duncan said.
“We shared the award with Watford last year so to win it outright is an outstanding achievement. We believe our scheme is one of the best in the country and we must pay tribute to Sarah Potts, our Health and Welfare Officer for her hard work in making this happen. The fans and the community really identify in what we do.”
Essex and Suffolk Water who sponsor the Blues Body care programme were equally thrilled with the award.
“The Blues Body care programme which we support is always professionally run in a friendly and approachable manner which obviously benefits the children and adults alike.”
