1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football (L1CCF)

Course Duration: 24 hours. Minimum age 16

Since replacing the old Junior Team Manager’s Course the practical element of this course has changed dramatically, providing 23 conditional practices where the game is the teacher.

The content of each practice has been designed to be easily understood, and the coach does not need to have great technical knowledge.

Awarded in partnership with the FA, the Level 1 is the first rung on the coaching ladder. This vocationally related qualification provides you with the opportunity to study and be assessed in both practical and theoretical aspects of coaching football.

The certificate qualifies you to coach grassroots club teams for children aged between 6 and 16. No pre-requisites to join this course.

What will I learn?

How to:

  • safely organise and supervise football activities including mini soccer, small sided games and conditional games
  • promote and establish working relationships and high standards between players, coaches, parents and officials
  • understand different aspects of coaching children
  • identify and adapt football activities and sessions for a variety of different age groups
  • identify personal development opportunities in football including sports therapy, administration and officiating.

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football (L2CCF)

Course Duration: 90 hours. Minimum age 17

Awarded in partnership with the FA, the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football is the next progression on the coaching ladder.

The qualification offers candidates a combination of practical experience and class-based theory to develop an understanding of the planning, conducting and evaluation of ethical football coaching sessions.

No pre-requisites to join the course but students are required to attend a Child Protection Workshop before their final assessment. Emergency Aid and Laws of the Game Workshops are included in the course.

What will I learn?

On successfully achieving the recognised qualification candidates will be able to:

  • develop an appreciation of the ethical coaching process
  • plan, conduct and evaluate a series of football coaching sessions
  • coach the basic skills and techniques of football
  • promote and establish positive working relationships at all levels
  • ensure the health and safety of players and others within the coaching environment
  • develop greater responsibility for their own learning and development
  • promote the sport in a positive and constructive manner
  • demonstrate an understanding of the principles of attack and defence through the use of practices and small sided games.
