It is thought Sammy used to stroll around the pitch on matchdays many years ago but took a long break for health reasons although much speculation suggested that the real reason was that someone laughed at him and he got upset!

Sammy made his comeback in the 1997/98 season against Plymouth Argyle and from then on he has been a permanent fixture at Roots Hall.

Sammy has always been hard working and has even had two makeovers in a nine year period. The first makeover helped Sammy become the only 8 foot tall fluorescent pink shrimp in the world and because of this people up and down the country began to recognise the legend that is......... Sammy The Shrimp!

The second makeover occurred when Sammy fell awkwardly while attempting to stand up straight and fell head first. Fortunately for him, supporters rallied and he managed to become a very happy Shrimp. In actual fact you will notice that a smile is a permanent fixture on his face all the time now!

Sammy is kept very busy at the club. He used to have a tradition of finishing last at the Annual Mascot Grand National although his latest makeover enables him to move that little bit quicker than the gigantic snail that stands next to him!

Sammy also manages many guest appearances in at local events and you can still see him on a matchday strutting his stuff and being the joke, oops I meant the joker that he is!

Since making his entrance to Jailhouse Rock, sung by his namesake, in front of over 9,000 supporters in a match against local rivals Leyton Orient, Elvis has become a very popular figure on the mascot circuit making appearances all over the country.

He likes to comb his hair in between taking penalties and also loves to pretend to sing on his giant inflatable microphone...... luckily for evryone in the stadium it is not a real one!

Both Elvis and Sammy have appeared on television regularly and Elvis more recently finished third in the Disney Channel Mascot Cip losing to Broxi Bear from Rangers F.C.

Other highlights for Elvis include playing and scoring in the first ever "Battle of the Mascots" held at Gay Meadow home of Shrewbury Town F.C in front of over 3,000 people.

He is also a regular in the Mascot Grand National, has appeared at numerous charity events up and down the country and even attended the Queen's Birthday, although it was Derby Countys Pride Park and not the Palace!
