Sportsmatch
Sportsmatch is government funded to support the development of grass roots sport in England. We make awards to organisations running projects aimed at increasing participation in sports at community level. We can do this through matching commercial sponsorship money invested in community sport.
We are funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through Sport England and have approximately £3 million per year to award. The scheme is adminstered in England through the Institute of Sports Sponsorship - part of the European Sponsorship Association - to ensure representation and understanding of the important role of commercial sponsorship in sport. Since our founding in 1992 we have awarded over £38 million and funded more than 5,200 projects across the country. Our matching awards has brought in over £48 million for these projects from the commercial sector.
How can Sportsmatch help Southend Utd Community and Educational Trust?
We can match sponsorship which has been given to an eligible sports body by a company to fund projects or schemes to encourage new participation at grass roots level. Thus if for example a local business gave £1,000 in sponsorship to the Trust to organise coaching in local schools, we would be able to match that with £1,000 of government money - and thereby double the amount of money available to the Trust
